Hello!

I’m Kat. I’m a writer and MA Promotional Media student at Goldsmiths, University of London. I live in London, but was brought up in rural Northern Ireland (think cows, sheep, no phone reception).
I’m a freelance writer, covering pop culture, music, internet culture and technology. I’ve written for publications like NME , Stereogum, PAPER, The Quietus, and loads more. You can see my Muckrack profile with some of my published work. I’m currently working on a dissertation on pop music and promotional culture.
Here are some pieces I’m particularly proud of:
The Troubled Afterlife of ‘Zombie’ by The Cranberries (Stereogum)
Why Are There So Many Spotify Genres? (PAPER)
TikTok is changing the rules of the music industry (Tech Radar)
Cardi B is the Blueprint for the Modern Pop Star (Uproxx)
How Liz Phair triumphed over the savageness of the music industry (Best Fit)
I’m also a copywriter and freelance social media and community manager. I’ve worked with creative agencies, media brands and FMCG companies.
I moved to London to study English Literature at University College London in 2012, and I’ve been here ever since. I live in South London with a very naughty cat called Spider. In my spare time, I like reading historical novels, cycling around South London and drinking in old man pubs with carpets in them.
